To use most effectively
- The ILA is best used for direct back-and-forth communication or one-way captioning.
- Speak clearly and enunciate your words.
- Speak in one continuous sentence without long pauses.
- Don’t use slang, metaphors or colloquialisms since those often translate literally.
- Minimize background noise.
- If what you are saying is not being translated correctly you can:
- Repeat it
- Spell it out
- Type it
- Use the top button to get a live audio interpreter (300+ languages).
Daily Use
- If you want to keep the ILA charging during the day, from the packaging, use the long charging cable with a cord with a right angle and plug it into the slot on the ILA.
- Please ensure that both sides of the device are charged properly so you will experience no outage issues throughout the day. You can verify by looking at the battery icon on the device’s status bar on the upper right to see whether it is charging (It will appear with the battery icon with a lightning icon inside).
- When you are using the ILA device, please make sure the stand is wide open to secure the upright position and prevent the device from falling.
- Before you can start daily use, make sure you place the ILA where you can see both screens clearly, without any obstructions or objects around them.
- Please be mindful of potential background noise that may hinder the ILA’s ability to do speech-to-text. The ILA has a unique ability to recognize voices and filter out background noise. But to maximize the device’s performance, it is best to ensure that the only noise is coming from a person’s voice.
- If you are in the session room, press the button and speak slowly and clearly to ensure that the speech-to-text will function at its best. Please make sure that the text is coming out correctly. Keep in mind, if you pause, that the sentence will break into the next line.
- When you are done using the ILA device for the day, please ensure that the device’s power is off and store it somewhere secure. It is best to consolidate accessories such as the charger cord, wireless keyboards, handsets and external speakers in one place.
Connectivity
Please ensure that the ILA device is always connected to a WiFi or hotspot. You can view the WiFi icon on the upper right to ensure that the device is actively connected. Without an internet connection, the ILA will not work. If there is no WiFi, check to make sure that the device settings enable WiFi. If not, please contact your network administrator.
If you have any additional devices such as a wireless keyboard or an external speaker that is connected to Bluetooth, be sure to check the Bluetooth icon on the status bar (upper right) to ensure that it is connected. If there is no icon, please double check to see if your settings allow the device to be connected with Bluetooth.
How to change
the Text-to-Speech voice
Many languages such as English have a choice of speakers. To change the Text-to-Speech voice:
- Go to Settings > General Management > Language and Input > Text to Speech.
- Press the wheel next to Preferred Engine.
- Then go to Install Voice Data. All languages are currently installed.
- Go to the language you want to change, for example English (United States), and click it. You will see eight voice choices. Click each one and decide your preference. Once you click back to the Text-to-Speech page, you can also adjust the speed and pitch if you would like.
